Weekly is the point of owning one
You put your face and hair on it. Cotton cases go weekly. Silk should too. Infrequent washing is how protein fiber plus sebum becomes yellow and splits. The method is the same basin logic as washing silk at home, just more often.
Machine if you bag it
A zippered mesh bag ($8–12 a pair) keeps the case off the rest of a gentle load. Alone with other delicates is better than with jeans. Low spin. Remove it promptly so it does not sit wet in a drum.
Satin polyester is not silk care
A $12 “silk-like” satin case is polyester. It can take a cool machine more casually and will pill and cling. If you bought it for the slip, wash it as poly. If you paid for mulberry, treat it as protein. The fiber split is silk versus satin, not a care ritual.

- Can I iron a silk pillowcase?
- Inside out, one-dot or silk setting, slightly damp, no steam blast. Or hang it smooth and skip the iron. Wrinkles in a pillowcase are not a character flaw.
- Why did it shred at the zipper?
- Caught in the drum, or a cheap habotai. Bag it. Replace a $20 case before you invent a ritual.
- Hair conditioner in the rinse for shine?
- You will sleep in film. Use a proper silk wash. Conditioner belongs in hair, not in bedding.
