Quartz is not a slur
A Citizen Eco-Drive or a Casio solar/quartz is more accurate than any mechanical watch under $2,000 and will survive a desk job without thinking. The “real watch” argument is about craft, not function. If the watch is a tool, quartz is the tool.
Automatic under $200 is a specific object
You are buying a visible rotor and the ritual of wearing it. Accuracy will be worse. Service will cost more than the watch if you send it to a watchmaker. That can still be worth it as a first mechanical — the same “buy the real core, not the costume” idea as leather that is actually leather.

Case, crystal, strap
Hardlex or mineral is normal at this price; sapphire is a bonus. A screw-down crown is rare and useful. A leather strap should be replaceable at 20 mm without drama. If the lugs are 22 mm and ugly, budget a $25 NATO as the actual everyday strap.
